Why Rodri was substituted in the Spain vs England Euro 2024 final
Rodri was forced off at half time during Spain’s Euro 2024 final against England. The Manchester City midfielder, who started at the heart of Spain’s midfield for the final at the Olympiastadion Berlin, lasted just 45 minutes before being replaced by Martin Zubimendi.
Rodri collided with Aymeric Laporte as he attempted to clear the ball towards the end of the first half, subsequently clutching his left hamstring and signaling to the bench that there was an issue. He was seen with his hands on his head as he walked down the tunnel, indicating his final was over. The 28-year-old then spoke to a member of Spain’s medical team as he left the pitch.
Despite his injury, Rodri later came out to sit on the bench for the second half, giving instructions to his teammates from the sidelines. His absence was a significant blow for Spain, as he has been a key player throughout the tournament.
