Spain key player talks about his future amidst transfer speculation involving Manchester City
Spain and RB Leipzig forward Dani Olmo has issued a clear message to potential suitors, including Manchester United and Manchester City, regarding his future. With just days remaining for clubs to activate a £50 million release clause in his contract, Olmo has highlighted the urgency for any interested party to act swiftly.
The talented midfielder has been a standout performer at Euro 2024, netting three goals and helping Spain reach the final. This stellar performance has only intensified speculation about his next move, with both Manchester clubs reportedly vying for his signature.
Manchester City are exploring options to bolster their squad, particularly with the potential departure of Kevin De Bruyne to Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Manchester United are keen to strengthen their team to enhance their competitiveness under Erik Ten Hag.
Speaking to Cadena SER ahead of the Euro 2024 final, Olmo expressed his intentions clearly. “My people know what I want to do… I have too much to do with the Euros to be thinking about other things,” he stated. “I have a contract with Leipzig and we have a very good relationship. There will be no problem.”
Olmo confirmed the existence of a €60 million (£50.5 million) release clause in his contract, which expires on July 20. He warned that any club aiming to secure his services after this date would need to pay a higher fee. “My 60 million clause until July 20? You know what you have to do,” he said. “If not, you’ll have to fight a little later.”
This announcement places both Manchester United and Manchester City on high alert, with a limited window to trigger the release clause and secure the versatile forward. As the transfer deadline approaches, the competition for Olmo’s signature is set to intensify.
