Rodri criticizes Arsenal’s approach at Etihad

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has expressed his disappointment with Arsenal’s strategy during their visit to the Etihad Stadium in March, suggesting that the Gunners’ defensive mindset contributed to their failure in the title race.

City recently clinched their fourth consecutive Premier League title, overcoming West Ham 3-1, a victory that rendered Arsenal’s win over Everton inconsequential.

Reflecting on the season, Rodri highlighted Arsenal’s goalless draw at the Etihad as a crucial misstep. Arsenal’s defensive tactics, which limited them to just 27% possession, were seen by Rodri as lacking ambition.

In an interview with Optus Sport via (Metro), Rodri stated, “When they came here, they faced us here at the Etihad, I saw them and said, ‘Ah, these guys, they don’t want to beat us, they just want a draw’. And that mentality, I don’t think we would do it the same way.”

Rodri emphasized that City’s winning mentality and determination to secure victories, even in tough matches, distinguished them from their rivals. This mindset, he believes, was pivotal in City’s successful title defense.

City’s consistency and mental resilience, according to Rodri, have been key factors in their dominance, as evidenced by their ability to maintain form and secure crucial points throughout the season
