Manchester City to offer Ederson significant pay increase to ward off Saudi interest
Manchester City are set to make a substantial offer to goalkeeper Ederson in a bid to retain him amidst growing interest from Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr.
Ederson, who joined City for £35 million in the summer of 2017, has been instrumental in the club’s success under Pep Guardiola. Known for his exceptional ability to play out from the back, Ederson’s departure would mark the end of a remarkable seven-year tenure at the Etihad Stadium.
Despite the speculation surrounding his future, City are prepared to offer a significant wage increase to convince Ederson to stay. Reports suggest that the club will propose a 75% salary hike, bringing his monthly earnings to £1 million, or approximately £250,000 per week. This offer aims to align Ederson’s wages with the top earners at the club.
However, the financial lure from Al-Nassr is substantial. The Saudi club is reportedly willing to pay Ederson £900,000 per week, along with a lucrative signing-on bonus. This staggering amount understandably appeals to Ederson, who has reportedly given Al-Nassr the green light for the move, pending an agreement between the clubs.
Negotiations between City and Al-Nassr are ongoing, with City hoping to secure around £50 million for Ederson. Given that the Brazilian goalkeeper has two years left on his contract, City might consider cashing in now if a satisfactory deal is reached.
The situation remains fluid, with Al-Nassr keen to finalize the transfer within the week. Ederson, who recently concluded his participation in the Copa America, may currently be on vacation, potentially delaying any immediate developments.
