Manchester City identify potential long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne in £80 million transfer
Manchester City is eyeing West Ham and Brazil midfielder Lucas Paqueta as a potential long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne. The interest in Paqueta arose last summer when City was searching for midfield reinforcements due to De Bruyne’s injury. However, negotiations faced hurdles due to an ongoing FA investigation into Paqueta.
City eventually signed Matheus Nunes from Wolves, but they are still interested in Paqueta for the upcoming summer transfer window. The Brazilian, seen as a more attacking option, remains unaware of the ongoing FA investigation that prevented his move to City in 2023.
Paqueta, contracted until 2027 with an option for another year, has an £85 million release clause starting this summer. City’s interest in Paqueta coincides with doubts about Bernardo Silva’s future at the club. Silva has been linked with a move away, with Barcelona mentioned as a potential destination.
