Manchester City identify new first-choice right-back if Kyle Walker leaves this summer
Manchester City is planning for the potential departure of right-back Kyle Walker this summer. If Walker were to leave, Manuel Akanji is set to become the club’s new first-choice right-back. Walker has had a mixed season on and off the field and was recently elected as Manchester City’s captain.
Despite being persuaded by Pep Guardiola to stay at the Etihad Stadium, Walker continues to attract interest from Bayern Munich, Saudi Arabia, and the Pro League. As a result, City is considering contingency plans.
Manuel Akanji, who joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 for just £15 million, has quickly proven to be a valuable asset.
The Swiss international has played multiple roles under Guardiola and recently filled in as an inverted right-back, supporting the midfield alongside Rodri.
Akanji’s adaptability and successful performances in various positions have made him a strong candidate to replace Walker if the latter leaves the club. Manchester City is actively monitoring the situation to prepare for any potential changes to the squad.
