Manchester City given 48 hours to agree sale of key player
In a bid to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming season, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) has set its sights on top Premier League goalkeepers.
TEAMtalk can exclusively reveal that Al-Nassr, backed by PIF, has given Manchester City a strict 48-hour ultimatum to finalize the transfer of Ederson Moraes.
Sources close to the negotiations have disclosed that Al-Nassr has already reached an agreement with Ederson on personal terms, offering him a lucrative four-year contract worth approximately €12.5 million (£10.5 million) per annum. This deal marks a significant step forward in their pursuit of the Brazilian shot-stopper.
However, negotiations between Al-Nassr and Manchester City hinge on the transfer fee. The Saudi club has tabled an offer ranging between €25 million (£21 million) to €30 million (£25.2 million), to be paid in structured installments. The clock is ticking for City, with just two days left to accept the proposal.
Should Manchester City fail to agree on terms within the stipulated timeframe, Al-Nassr is poised to pivot towards Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, their preferred alternative.
The Brazilian, currently a cornerstone at Anfield, has expressed a preference to remain with Liverpool to safeguard his position in the national team setup.
Nevertheless, Al-Nassr remains undeterred in their pursuit of a world-class goalkeeper, with PIF actively overseeing negotiations. The conglomerate, which also owns Newcastle United, aims to secure top talent for both Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad ahead of the new season.
In addition to Ederson and Alisson, PIF has engaged with agents representing several other goalkeepers, including Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, as contingency options.
Juventus’ Wojciech Szczesny and Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka have also emerged as potential targets should primary negotiations falter.
The coming days are poised to be decisive in determining whether Ederson will make the move to Saudi Arabia, thereby reshaping the landscape of Premier League goalkeeping ahead of the new campaign.
