Manchester City eyes Premier League star after snubbing him last summer
Manchester City are reportedly considering reigniting their interest in West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta this summer after the Brazilian impressed throughout the season.
Pep Guardiola’s side explored signing Paqueta last summer but opted for Matheus Nunes of Wolverhampton due to an ongoing FA investigation into the player.
Nunes’ underwhelming first season, coupled with injuries to Kevin De Bruyne and constant speculation surrounding Bernardo Silva’s future, has led City to consider revisiting the attacking midfield position.
Paqueta, who boasts eight goals and seven assists in 42 appearances this season, is said to be a target despite his quiet performance against City on the final day of the Premier League season.
The report mentions a hefty £85 million release clause in Paqueta’s contract, adding an extra layer of intrigue to a potential transfer.
Meanwhile, Kalvin Phillips’ Manchester City career appears all but over.
The midfielder’s injury-plagued loan spell at West Ham did little to revive his fortunes, and his conspicuous absence from the City’s title celebrations suggests a permanent exit is on the cards.
