Manchester City could regret selling key player for £80m
Manchester City are facing a decision on the future of Julian Alvarez, with reports suggesting that Atletico Madrid are actively pursuing the Argentine striker.
According to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, negotiations are underway, and Alvarez, valued at £80m by City, is reportedly open to the move to secure more playing time.
Alvarez, 24, joined City in a £14m deal back in 2022 and has since made a significant impact, scoring 36 goals and providing 18 assists in 103 appearances across all competitions.
His versatility and ability to contribute across various positions on the pitch have made him a crucial asset for Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Despite the potential financial windfall of £80m, selling Alvarez could weaken City’s squad considerably, especially given his pivotal role last season, where he made more Premier League appearances (36) than any other City player.
Losing Alvarez would likely necessitate finding a suitable replacement, potentially disrupting the team’s balance and strength.
