Man City plan to sell a midfielder before triggering Guimaraes release clause
Manchester City are willing to listen to offers for midfielder Matheus Nunes, just one season after acquiring him for a hefty £53 million from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Nunes has struggled to break into Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup this season. Despite his expensive price tag, he’s only managed seven Premier League starts and hasn’t scored a goal for Manchester City.
The fierce competition from established midfielders like Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Phil Foden hasn’t helped his case.
This lack of playing time has opened the door for a potential move, according to HITC.
Clubs from Saudi Arabia have shown interest in Nunes, and City are exploring these options through his representatives, which include the well-known agent Jorge Mendes.
Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have also previously expressed interest in the midfielder.
This potential sale isn’t an isolated incident. City are also looking to offload another midfielder, Kalvin Phillips, due to similar struggles for playing time.
Meanwhile, Guardiola is looking to strengthen his midfield. His initial target, West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta, is facing potential betting rule violations, making him a risky option.
With Paqueta seemingly unavailable, Manchester City might turn their attention to Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, who has a hefty £100 million release clause.
