Four Man City players named in England squad for Euros 2024
Gareth Southgate confirmed his 30-man England squad on Tuesday, which will be cut to 26 before the tournament.
Four Manchester City players – Kyle Walker, John Stones, Jack Grealish, and Phil Foden – were included as expected. However, there was no place for City youngsters Rico Lewis and Kalvin Phillips.
The latter is recovering from an injury and endured a difficult loan spell at West Ham. Lewis has also seen limited playing time recently.
Southgate’s squad featured some surprises, including former City keeper James Trafford, Liverpool’s Jarell Quansa and Curtis Jones, and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
Jarrad Branthwaite and Kobbie Mainoo, who were called up in March, kept their spots.
Experienced players like Jordan Henderson and Marcus Rashford (with a combined 141 caps) were surprisingly omitted.
Reece James, Ben White, Eric Dier, Ben Chilwell, Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho, Callum Wilson, and Dominic Solanke also missed out.
The 30-man group will be cut to 26 before the Euros, with England set to face Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia.
The Three Lions warm up with friendlies against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland before the competition in Germany begins.
