Man City offer two players to Newcastle united
Manchester City is reportedly prepared to include either Rico Lewis or Oscar Bobb in a deal to secure Newcastle United’s star midfielder, Bruno Guimaraes.
The reigning Premier League champions are looking to strengthen their midfield for the upcoming season and see Guimaraes as a prime target.
Newcastle United has set a hefty £100 million price tag on Guimaraes, a valuation Manchester City is unwilling to meet.
City values the Brazilian international closer to £80 million, which has stalled negotiations. However, Newcastle’s interest in young talents Rico Lewis and Oscar Bobb could provide a solution. City is considering offering a loan deal for one of these players to sweeten the deal.
Rico Lewis, a versatile 19-year-old who can play as a full-back or in an inverted midfield role, made an impact during City’s treble-winning 2022-23 season, starting 10 Premier League matches. Despite his potential, he started only eight games last season.
Oscar Bobb, a 21-year-old Norwegian winger, was promoted from the Under-23s to the senior squad but saw limited action, primarily coming off the bench.
City has clarified that neither Lewis nor Bobb is for sale, as they are integral to the club’s long-term plans. However, manager Pep Guardiola may be willing to loan out one of them to acquire Guimaraes, aiming to bolster City’s midfield and drive for an unprecedented fifth consecutive Premier League title.
Guimaraes, 26, is also on Arsenal’s radar, adding pressure to City’s pursuit. As negotiations continue, City hopes that leveraging their young talents will be the key to breaking the deadlock and securing the Brazilian midfielder.
