Carlo Ancelotti confirms Real Madrid injury ahead of Manchester City clash
Real Madrid’s preparations for their crucial Champions League quarter-final second leg against Manchester City have been dealt a blow as head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Rodrygo is nursing an injury.
Ancelotti revealed that Rodrygo missed Saturday’s La Liga match against Mallorca due to “a knock” sustained in training. Despite being selected for the squad, the Brazilian attacker remained on the bench as an unused substitute.
The 23-year-old’s fitness will now be closely monitored ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Manchester City, with his availability for the match uncertain.
Real Madrid opted for a rotated lineup against Mallorca, giving opportunities to players like Lucas Vazquez, Luka Modric, Brahim Diaz, and Joselu. However, the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Ferland Mendy, Federico Valverde, and Jude Bellingham are expected to feature in the starting XI against City.
Ancelotti also expressed his intention to give more playing time to Eder Militao, who only made a late appearance against Mallorca due to the nature of the match.
Despite their victory over Mallorca, Real Madrid’s focus now shifts to the Champions League clash with Manchester City, where they aim to secure their spot in the semi-finals. However, they will be without the services of Thibaut Courtois, David Alaba, and Aurelien Tchouameni due to injury and suspension.
With Rodrygo’s fitness uncertain and key players sidelined, Real Madrid face a challenging task against Manchester City as they seek to advance in Europe’s premier club competition.
