Borussia Dortmund in talks with Manchester City defender
Borussia Dortmund has initiated discussions with Manchester City regarding a potential transfer for defender Yan Couto. This move marks another significant development in what has been a busy transfer window for the Premier League champions, who have already seen substantial revenue from player sales.
Sergio Gomez’s recent transfer to Real Sociedad for €10 million, which includes a 30% sell-on clause, has bolstered City’s coffers. Now, Yan Couto is the latest player attracting attention, particularly from Germany. The Brazilian international is valued at around £40 million, according to sources close to the club.
Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger reports that Dortmund is keen on acquiring the 22-year-old, viewing him as a different option compared to their current right-back, Julian Ryerson. Couto has reportedly shown interest in a move to the Bundesliga, and talks between his representatives and Dortmund have already taken place.
Dortmund is looking to spend between €20 million and €25 million for Couto, a price that City might find agreeable given their confidence in their current right-back options. Kyle Walker continues to enjoy Pep Guardiola’s trust, and there is also a willingness to provide more opportunities to Rico Lewis due to his versatility.
City’s defensive lineup boasts players capable of covering multiple positions, including John Stones and Manuel Akanji, which reduces the need for a direct replacement for Couto should he leave.
As Dortmund’s interest in Couto progresses, Manchester City fans will be watching closely to see how this potential transfer unfolds and how it might impact the club’s defensive strategies for the upcoming season.
