Arteta decides to start new adventure at Man City
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly nearing a move to Manchester City in 2025 rather than extending his contract at the Emirates Stadium.
According to Football365, the news comes as Manchester City clinched their fourth consecutive Premier League title with a 3-1 victory over West Ham on the final day of the season.
Although Arsenal secured a 2-1 win over Everton, it wasn’t enough to alter the title outcome due to City’s triumph. Speculation around Pep Guardiola’s future has intensified, especially after he hinted at potentially leaving Manchester City at the end of next season.
Guardiola stated, “The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying. We have talked with the club – my feeling is that I want to stay now. I will stay next season and during the season we will talk. But eight or nine years – we will see.”
Reports from Spain indicate that Guardiola is preparing to say goodbye to Manchester City in 2025, with Barcelona looking to appoint him.
Concurrently, additional reports suggest that Mikel Arteta could replace Guardiola, as Arteta is said to be leaning more towards Manchester City than renewing his Arsenal contract.
Despite efforts by the Arsenal board to secure his long-term future, Arteta appears unpersuaded and ready for a new challenge at a club offering a higher budget and more autonomy in squad management.
Arteta, who was previously an assistant coach at Manchester City, has made notable progress with Arsenal but might find the project at City, designed to continue Guardiola’s legacy, more appealing.
Arteta mentioned before their final game that discussions about his future will take place after the season, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the present.
